I don’t take it lightly that I am asking you to provide practical help to this work and thus, I want to be very transparent in how I came to ask for your help, and to provide clarity as to how your gift will be used.
First and foremost, it might be good to understand that I did not proactively set up this page to solicit donations so that I could then take your gift and go out and preach the gospel and begin to help people. Soliciting help was not on the radar when I began to serve the Lord in the gospel in a more full-time capacity in January of 2017.
Now, twenty-one + months into the mission I have come to recognize in a more personal way that the needs over and above the presentation of the gospel are great every day. Just to say it like it is, I need your help to help others that I encounter on the highways and byways of the various cities that I travel through. As I work day by day in sharing God’s Word, I meet someone, somewhere who needs a legitimate hand up, (not a handout.)
Here is an example of the type of situation I frequently come across in which your gift could be of great help. Late one Friday night while handing out bible tracts in downtown Atlanta, GA I came across a man who had just come in from Augusta, GA. He came looking for work. We talked at length about the Lord Jesus Christ and we took the opportunity to pray together right there on the street.
Near the end of our time together and recognizing this gent was legitimately trying to step-up, I asked him, “how can I best help, what do you need?” We had been encouraged and helped spiritually, but it was obvious that there were basic needs that should to be met as well. In the end I provided some deodorant, a razor, some body wash and laundry soap. He was not extremely run down and thankfully these few things enabled him to get cleaned up and look a bit more presentable for a job interview. Challenge is in that the cost was $23, and that simply adds up over time.
I could write of many encounters, but I think you get the point as to the spirit in which I solicit a gift to the poor from you. Simply put, the giving of your gift will enable us to continue to firstly, distribute spiritual food according to our
primary mission, and to meet basic human needs where and when needed along the way.
It may be that your gift directly gives a hand-up to a soul in need. It may be that your gift underwrites the costs associated with a day or evening of Bible tract distribution. We hand out thousands of Bible tracts, some of which we receive for free, many of which we need to purchase. I look forward to giving you an update on how your specific gift helped in the furtherance of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
